Beginning March 15, 2011 all ATM's are to be ADA Compliant according to the Department of Justice. All ATM's are required to have speech capabilities as well as braile for the seeing impaired customer. All ATM's have to be wheel chair accessible meaning the height of the keypad and screen can only be so high. To help you get a better idea of how these new rules will affect you, Premier Merchants Group presents a new whitepaper: Understanding the 2010 ADA. Please read the attached whitepaper.
A word of warning about non-compliance: As an industry we’ve seen certain legal groups take advantage of opportunities regarding noncompliance (specifically, surcharge and network decals). Noncompliance with the new ADA regulations leaves companies exposed to possible legal recourse. Claims under the ADA are considered FEDERAL violations and could carry harsher penalties than a standard industry rule violation.
